Hello all! I'm Pinochle. My wife and I have been dreaming of living on the river (St.Johns, Florida) for a few years now and we finally agreed to do it. We will be building a rather large shanty. Looking to build around '35 feet at the moment. We plan to live aboard indefinitely, and we think we'll need a little extra room as our daughter grows up. Glad to find this site and have some heads to glean some knowledge from.

We're into self sufficiency, minimal consumerism with maximum fun, not owning land, being vagabonds.

Thanks. Right now I'm cleaning up the workspace and deciding on a design. I'll be sure to update you all when things get rolling/floating.

My old stomping grounds the St. John (Jacksonville was home as a kid) Loved the river and can imagine your excitement. Your thinking along the lines of 35' and thats good. Max fresh water storage, I found a 4 burner propane with oven gimbled stove served as a good heat source for the cool winter days.
I didnt have the fun of a shantyboat but did live on my motorsailer for many years in S. Ca. Its a great way of life.
