Summer Ends, So Back to the Garage

“Kerry Elwood’s hand-crafted wooden houseboat is back where it started, at the home of his mom, Diane Poindexter, in Salem, where the boat began its life in her garage.

But it won’t be there for long.

On Wednesday, the skilled airbrush artist with boat-building ambitions will trailer his creation, christened the “Driftwood,” to Port Townsend, Wash., for the weekend Wooden Boat Festival.

On Saturday, aided by a crew of four working in a light, intermittent drizzle, Elwood loaded the boat onto its trailer after spending the bulk of the summer – July 4 weekend to Saturday’s start to the Labor Day weekend – on Detroit Lake as a get-away destination for Elwood, friends and family.”
