“Hippie” Houseboat India

The site says…. “Houseboat Sunbeam, Dal Lake, owned by Mr Dandoo (Dandoos Palace). Although we were staying there the sign Vacant was not removed. We stayed for a settled price which was lower than ‘normal’ tourists payed.
It was quite nice, the boat was designed for colonial British tourists who used to go to Kashmir for the summer. We could sit on the roof and relax. I suspected that we were used as a kind of bill board, that Mr. Dandoo wanted to impress potential Indian guests with his European visitors.
We also felt a bit hospitalized by our hosts. We had a cook, a sweeper, a man who rowed us to the shore etc. It was a bit too much.”
