From Statesman Journal: Kerry Elwood had just one hope when he took his hand-crafted houseboat from Salem to Port Townsend, Wash., for the annual Wooden Boat Festival: To come back with a contract to build one for someone else.
The Salem airbrush artist/boat-builder got the agreement with longtime friends Joe and Cindy Meduri, and a lot more.
“I had pretty much a crowd on the dock the whole time I was there,” Elwood said about the sensation caused by the 28-foot boat christened Driftwood. “We pulled in really late Thursday night (after the Labor Day weekend), and there already were people there to see the boat.”
