Beautiful Shantyboat Launching Soon

Classic Repost:   Kerry Elwood, who is building an absolute work of art that I featured in a previous story, hopes to be launching in the not too distant future.

Here are some more details:  L.O.A.29’beam 9′,marine plywood on Port Orford cedar frames sheathed in fiberglass cloth set in epoxy.Reclaimed red cedar upper deck.Black walnut sole and Myrtlewood interior. It will be propelled by a pair of propane powered 9.9 hp.outboards.90watts of solar panels charge up 2 6 volt golf cart batteries.A small wood burning ships stove will provide heat for the interior, and reclaimed bronze and aluminum port lights provide ventilation on the warm days.A gangplank and shallow draft will get you to shore.Inspiration came from Harry Bryan’s featured boat in Wooden Boat magazine.I’ve been an airbrush artist my entire life but have taken up wood working in the last ten years after receiving woodworking tools from my dying brother. After launching this boat(presently called Water Woody after my brother)I hope to build more for sale,as well as the plans. It is hoped that a fundraising event on April 12th will help with the funding needed to complete the boat.Oh,and 40 gal.water tanks and a composting head will also be installed along with a rain catchment system.
